Public Scholarship, Community Engagement Practice, and Sustainability Colloquium

Sponsored by The Pennsylvania State University and PA Campus Compact
Hosted at The Penn State Center: Philadelphia
October 30-31
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Penn State University and PA Campus Compact are pleased to invite proposals for a colloquium to feature research that highlights the intersection of civic engagement issues, community engagement practice, and sustainability. The colloquium will serve as a vehicle to share our experiences in public scholarship across campuses and organizations, presentations should be approximately 20-30 minutes in length.

Among the thematic issues the colloquium seeks to explore are those relating to civic participation and non-participation, sustainability, social justice, storytelling and dialogue, and power. Of equal interest are narratives of practice, stories from the field that highlight democratic engagement initiatives and projects in such areas as, but not restricted to,

  • community economic development and empowerment
  • housing
  • community health and nutrition
  • educational partnerships and reform.

We are asking for a short abstract (500 words) of your presentation by September 15. From these abstracts, presenters will prepare a working paper by October 15. These working papers will be made available to all participants to review before the colloquium to enrich our discussions. Additionally, these papers will be included in a published proceedings of the colloquium. Guidelines for these papers will be forthcoming.

Further details and registration information will be forthcoming shortly. To submit abstracts and for additional information write Dr. Gary S. Calore (gsc1@psu.edu).
